Orang yang melakukan bunuh diri atau berhasil bunuh diri bukanlah orang yang memang mau mati atau mau meninggalkan dunia ini tapi adalah orang yang meminta bantuan untuk merasakan hidup bahagia. (SURYANI)

In order to reduce and prevent cases of suicide in Bali, the crisis center will be opened under the name of the Service Life of Joy with the motto of Struggle Against the Darkness. This service is the result of cooperation between the Syriac Institute for Mental Health (SIMH) with The Rotary Club of Bali Ubud. This service is handled by a psychiatrist with a field coordinator in organizing tasks in service and community. This service not only receives a complaint over the phone, but they can also come to this service. The findings in the community will provide counseling, counseling, case management, victim’s family and the society as well as discussion of the case.

In realizing this vision of the Service Life of Joy has the concept of Tri Hita Karana carry out a balanced and harmonious life in the pursuit of happiness. Whatever happens is the best that is a lesson in the mature self. Meanwhile, in addition to its mission statement is to form a volunteer for the Happiness of Life Service will be responsible for themselves, their families and communities also appealed to the people of Bali live healthy balance of spiritual and material needs.

During the two-week program conducted in order to create mental health volunteer, first with relaxation meditation practice. Then free themselves from the trauma of the past by following the Programme Understanding Yourself, to be able to feel compassion, sense of expected and loved by the father and the mother during the childhood time. Expected to feel this could make the volunteers care about others. Then followed the inaugural lecture which contains, first explained the mission and vision of the Happiness Life Service , then understand the cycles of human life from conception until death, and finally understand why people commit suicide and how to overcome the problem of suicide.

Since 17 – 27 September 2006 the volunteers underwent training at Gumicik Guest House, Gianyar. They trained every day in meditation relaxation, heal themselves and heal others, practicing  candle meditation use a candle to the eye, the eye not only to view but also to experience other people and facilitate others to understand him. Then also trained to use the voice so that it can make people follow what is said.

The volunteers are also trained to talk to express their own feelings, to feel the others, and then express the experiences gained from their childhood, adulthood and adolescents memories,  to understand the elderly. It also trained to be able to receive complaints by telephone. Then trained to provide counseling, singing, leading the meditation relaxation, and then also asked to read the guide book about achieving happiness life through Meditation, Meditation Candles and Balinese Women Today. Also given lectures on mental disorder in general Then practice with patients experiencing mental disorders so they can understand who they are. Last but not least trained to report every day what happened. In addition they also derived in Overcoming Loss of Spouse Life Program. Volunteers are asked to set the course of events, and sang along during each active discussion with the audience.

This program was attended by 15 volunteers from Buleleng, Karangasem and Denpasar. They were forged by three psychiatrists namely Prof. Dr. Dr. Luh Ketut Suryani, SpKJ (K), dr I Dewa Gede Basudewa, SpKJ and dr. Cokorda Bagus Jaya Lesmana, SpKJ as a form of community mental health.
